Influence of Environment on Photography Style
Hawaii’s Impact
Q1. How does living and working in Hawaii influence your photography style and projects?
Ans. Working in Hawaii as a photographer has its perks and challenges. We are renowned for our natural beauty, with beautiful beaches and mountains—everywhere you look, you can take a great landscape photograph.
Tourists enjoy taking photos outside, while many local clients prefer to stay indoors. Hawaii is one of the most expensive places to live in the state, so the cost of doing business and attracting qualified leads is a challenge.
We’ve found a way to mitigate the challenges and consistently ranked as Yelp’s top boudoir photography company.

Q2. How do you address concerns or misconceptions about nude and boudoir photography in Hawaii with potential clients or the public?
Ans. No matter what you’re doing, you’re going to have naysayers. Focus on the ones coming to you for work, and let the other stuff bounce off your skin.

Evolution and Adaptation in Photography
Future Vision
Q4. How will your work [ JP Moulin Photos ] evolve in the next few years?
Ans. An old adage says “if it ain’t broke, why fix it?”. The work will remain generally the same, focusing on lighting, photography composition, working with people, etc.; however, the tools used in the craft and the marketing methods are changing rapidly.
The primary focus will be my work, but in second place comes the awareness to adapt to a constantly changing technological environment.
Q5. As a boudoir photographer in Hawaii, what trends do you see emerging in nude and boudoir photography, and how do you adapt to them?
Ans. I stick with the classic keep it simple philosophy. Amazing things are happening with Photoshop and Artificial Intelligence photography, but a beautiful image is timeless. It outlives the trends. Make a woman look flattering; you won’t have to worry about the latest trend.

Q6. How would you describe your style and vision as a photographer?
Ans. Although a man, I think like a woman, who is my primary demographic. They want to look good from the top of their head down to their toes. They want to look sexy, but more importantly, they want to look flattering. That’s always my goal.

Q9. What role does editing play in your nude and boudoir photography work?
Ans. For me, lighting tweaks and subtle adjustments in various apps…but 95% of my clients take unedited photos. I want to spend more time shooting than in front of a computer.
